At about 10 o'clock this forenoon, a colored man by the name of Kil Patrick, while attempting to jump upon the bumper ota freight car. at Meares' Bluff, missed his hold and fell onto the track and was ran over and instantly killed by the engine, ft seems that the unfortunate man was not in the employ of the railroad company, and that he had no business to be where he was when the accident occurred. He was driven from the engine here, before the train went over the river, and as the engineer saw no more ot him unti1 about the time of the accident, it is pre suraed that hestole a ride to the Bluff, We failed to learn whether the deceas ed belonged to this city, or was a stranger in these parts.
